Government Official Confirms MoD Investigating Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, with Personnel Told to Refrain from Secret Talk in Vehicles.

An defense minister has stated that the Ministry of Defence is currently looking into the possible threats posed by Chinese-made vehicles, while personnel have been instructed to refrain from talking about secret information in all vehicles.

Security Advice for MoD Personnel

During a recently aired interview on LBC, a defence minister addressed reports that MoD staff have been told not to discuss secret information while riding in Chinese vehicles.

He said that the MoD is “investigating” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, but stressed that security is a issue in every modern vehicles.

We have a collection of thousands of vehicles in the MoD and those vehicles account for a tiny fraction.
But whether you’re driving a vehicle from China or a non-Chinese car, what we’ve asked our people is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence technology into their car, to avoid having discussions at a secret classification in any kind of car, due to the increasing risks of surveillance that are present in every single automobile, to restrict those confidential conversations in protected areas. That’s a prudent and reasonable thing for everyone worried about security.

When it was put to him that it would be prudent for the MoD to stop using all cars from China, Pollard responded: ‘That’s exactly what we are looking into at the present time.”

Broader Security Context

The announcement comes as claims from Scandinavian countries have alerted the UK to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made electric buses, which could enable China to switch off public transport and bring chaos to public transit.

Additionally, a Russia intelligence vessel has been directing laser beams at RAF aircrew, described as a “extremely risky” action by defence officials.

This broader defence environment underscores the importance of strong measures and vigilance in every areas of government operations, including vehicle usage to discussions practices.
