The highly-awaited Season 2 of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel launches on the streaming platform this week, and audience theories has been rampant.
The first season introduces a diverse group of personalities living within Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other with musical numbers about their clashes, and establishes tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 vary widely, but certain themes recur frequently: Could a fan-favorite character break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the binding agreement affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with fan service as the main goal," the creator stated earlier this year. "But I feel like me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That could imply viewers have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how fast season 2 progresses, and how much of what they're waiting for unfolds this season.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we get some incredible disclosures, some fascinating origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — especially in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a couple people create a bingo card about season 2," she mentions. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've already completed a few items, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
